On a pedestrian door, 2 mm FLEX lasts 18–24 months. On a forklift-traffic cold-store door, 3 mm POLAR lasts 18–36 months depending on pallet-movement volume. SEAL-WELD welding-grade strips last 3–5 years because they are rarely touched. Replace individual strips as they split — full curtain replacement is rarely needed.

Only POLAR ribbed grade. Standard FLEX super-clear goes brittle below -5 °C and cracks under forklift contact. AERSTER POLAR uses a low-temperature plasticiser rated -25 °C continuous, and the vertical ribs stop strips freezing together at the overlap — the failure mode on cheaper "cold-room" curtains.

Ribbed (POLAR) is mandatory for freezer and cold-room doors — the ribs prevent adjacent strips from freezing together, which is the main failure mode on flat-strip cold curtains. Flat (FLEX) is fine for room-temperature warehouses, commissaries and dry storage where strips part and re-seal freely. Do not use flat strips below 0 °C.

Yes — AERSTER FLEX and POLAR ship with IS 2508 food-grade test reports and an FSSAI food-contact declaration. They meet HACCP "physical barrier at temperature-controlled entries" requirements. A monthly inspection log (included free with AMC) is the standard audit ask from food-safety consultants.

Yes. SEAL-WELD is an orange UV-blocking curtain that complies with ANSI Z49.1 "welding light protection" and is rated UL-94 VO for self-extinguishing behaviour. It blocks arc flash for passers-by and filters the blue-white glare without fully obstructing visibility — ideal for welding bays, fabrication shops and automotive body workshops.

Replace individual strips when they develop cracks longer than 100 mm, when the plasticiser migrates (strips turn stiff/cloudy), or when overlap drops below 40 % due to edge curling. Full-curtain replacement is rare — most sites run AERSTER strips for 3+ years replacing 10–20 % annually.

PVC seals better but slows people down — best for cold storage, loading docks, and low-traffic doors.
